2016 Top 10 Lounges in Los Angeles Area

What truly represents a good lounge is the combination of entertainment venue, social club, and bar, making it an adequate place for both those who want to socialize and couples who only have eyes for each other. Some of these establishments welcome you with live performances, a varied food menu accompanied by an extensive selection of signature cocktails. Other locations count on a DJ, snacks and offer only beer and wine. There are places to fit everyone's needs, and they are always packed. Here is a list of the top ten lounges in L.A.

The Bungalow Restaurant

The Bungalow, whose owner is the nightlife entrepreneur Brent Bolthouse, resides in a Baja-style cottage, at Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, in Santa Monica. If you want to get to known people, you can choose from going to the main bar, to the Game Room (comes with a pool table) or to the outside deck which offers spectacular ocean views. The menu includes light bites from FIG restaurant that's also part of the hotel.

Dirty Laundry Restaurant

This one is another investment made by the Houston Brothers, along with other three locations (Pour Vous, No Vacancy, La Descarga). Dirty Laundry is a bar situated below the busy Hollywood Boulevard. The location has a vintage interior design, awaiting you with a dimly lit atmosphere, exposed brick walls, and bartenders in suspenders. You can order various cocktails including adult slushies like the “Cherry Popper”, a combination of tequila, habanero, cherry, and lime.

The Edison Restaurant

This sprawling bar fills what used to be downtown’s first power plant. Signs of its history have been kept (including a massive boiler) but are mixed with Art Deco influences and plush turn-of-the-century pieces of furniture. Of course, the drinks are impressive, but you can also find something tasty to eat like oysters Rockefeller, truffled mac ‘n’ cheese, fries with orange-ginger mayo or coconut ranch, deviled eggs or lobster corn dogs. The heterogenous crowd is greeted with a varied selection of international beers, original cocktails, and an eclectic wine list.

E.P. & L.P. Restaurant

At E.P. & L.P. (as in “extended play” and “long play”), Australian chef Louis Tikaram lets himself influenced by his Chinese, Fijian and Indian roots. At this self-claimed “Asian eating house”, you can order dishes like Fijian ceviche with cilantro and coconut, grilled short rib with ginger and coriander root or the traditional Fijian lovo (which is a combo of meat and vegetables wrapped in banana leaves and steamed in a pit of hot rocks). Designed by Projects of Imagination created the eatery situated on the second floor; the location's 4,000-square-foot rooftop lounge accommodates two bars.

The Library Restaurant

Go to the second level of The Redbury hotel, and you will find a comfortable, lounge-type of setting, just perfect to have a drink and light bites. Here you will be greeted by books spread on shelves and a card catalog cabinet next to the bar. A pool table and a digital photo booth can also be found in this pseudo-studious setting. If you step outside, you will notice a lovely courtyard with fire pits and a big glass wall facing the intersection of Hollywood and Vine. The menu is not very complex; you can order dishes from Cleo that include Mediterranean dips, kebabs, salads, and flatbreads. As for the specialty cocktails, we recommend the Old Hollywood, a reinterpretation of the Old Fashioned, made with Bulleit Bourbon whiskey, house-made fig-almond syrup and a touch of walnut bitters.

Next Door Lounge Restaurant

Next Door Lounge has a similar atmosphere to the saloons and the Old Hollywood glamour. At the entrance, you must give the proper password to Colonel James Anderson (also known as “The Dapper Doorman”), and you might even be rewarded with a free appetizer coupon. You can receive the entrance password by completing an online application on the Next Door Lounge website. The wide, square space includes a bar, tables in the middle of the location and some lounge areas with leather armchairs and sofas. You can enjoy vintage films projected on a wall and also live music. Chef Nikki Martin adds a touch of spirits on some of the dishes. This is the case, for example, with the martini-inspired “Dirty Lil’ Devilled Eggs” that include vodka, vermouth, and a green olive garnish or the Bulleit Bourbon onion confit that covers “The Burger.” You can also enjoy the lamb lollipops, charred artichokes dipped in rosemary garlic aïoli and various flatbreads. The perfect end for your meal is the Bourbon peach cobbler.

Nobu Malibu Restaurant

This wide and lovely place includes a dining room and a bar with wall-high windows, exterior lounge, outdoor patio and private room. The devoted customers have plenty of options: from sushi, sushi rolls, and sashimi to skewers, tempura or tobanyaki. You can also find a section of “Malibu Specials” which contains lobster sweet and sour, mini tacos (tuna, uni, rib-eye, shrimp, lobster or vegetarian) and albacore with Meyer lemon. As for dessert, you should pick the bento box of warm chocolate soufflé cake. The wine list is mainly based on Californian selections, but you can also enjoy signature sakés especially made for Nobu’s restaurants.
