Los Angeles: Fun For Free

L.A. is big; it has 3.8 million people and sprawls over 469 square miles. It can be intimidating for the first time visitor but if also offers an enormous amount of culture and beauty. What’s more, some of the finest sights in the city are free. This post brings you 5 great attractions that are all free, so the next time you find yourself with a little time on your hands in this great city, you do not waste it.

The Beach

First and foremost of your list of attractions should be the beach. Los Angeles is blessed with stunning beaches, good weather and a great variety of coastline, so this is a really good place to soak up some Californian sun. If you want the full on social experience we suggest you head for Venice Beach, or for those looking to escape and find some peace try Rancho Palos Verdes. It would be a shame not to take a dip in the Pacific during you stay here.

The Getty Center

The Getty Center offers a fine collection of art in an amazing setting. You’ll find the Getty Center 900 feet above the 405 freeway in the Santa Monica Mountains, offering views over West L.A. and out to the Pacific. The stunning buildings house a significant collection of European and American art that stretches from to the Middle Ages to the modern period. Apart from the view and buildings, the grounds are also well worth exploring. You can easily spend a whole day here.

The Griffith Observatory

On the southern side of Mount Hollywood, in the Griffith Park, the observatory of the same name boasts stunning views and much for the fans of space and science to discover and enjoy. From the observatory you can see right across Downtown over Hollywood and out into the Pacific Ocean.

Olvera Street

The oldest part of Downtown L.A., Olvera Street, is also the place to learn about Hispanic Culture. Containing 27 historic buildings and part of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Monument, this area is both historically fascinating and home to a vibrant part of modern day life.  You can take a free tour or explore the Mexican market place at your leisure as an excellent way of taking in some L.A. History.

The Price Is Right

Many people think of the entertainment industry when they think of Los Angeles. It’s much more, but why not actually make it on to T.V. during your stay? The Price is Right is one of the longest running game shows that’s also relatively easy to get on to. Tickets are free but you’ll probably need to book in advance.

All of these sites offer many advantages, not least of which that they are free to visit and preserved for the public. They are however, all relatively challenging to find a place to park in.
