Rock Out with Write Stuff ...The Rock Bottom Remainders!

You may not at all be familiar with the rock band, the Rock Bottom Remainders, but there is no question you will be familiar with some or all of its band members. In fact you might be quite surprised to learn that the famous horror novelist Stephen King is part of the band.

The band will be celebrating its 20th anniversary at a special concert at the El Rey Theatre June 22, which is being billed as their final public appearance together. For the finest luxury limousine service in Los Angeles to the event, the best choice is Exclusive Sedan.

The Rock Bottom Remainders consists of several prominent writers and journalists.  Besides Stephen King, the band members are: Mitch Albom, a best selling author who has been a regular on ESPN’s The Sports Reporters, Dave Barry, a Pulitzer prize winning author and columnist, Dave’s brother Sam, humorist Roy Blount Jr., best selling novelist Greg Iles, cartoonist Matt Groening, who is best known for The Simpsons cartoon, journalist and songwriter James McBride, Amy Tan, the author of the popular novel/film The Joy Luck Club, writer Ridley Pearson, the co-author of Peter and the Starcatchers and author/attorney Scott Turow the writer of the best sellers Presumed Innocent and The Burden of Proof. Former members of the band include Blues legend Al Kooper and respected author and poet Maya Angelou.

Here's a video of them performing:

Kathi Kamen Goldmark, the founder of the band and who was Sam Barry’s wife, died of breast cancer late last month. The band may be breaking up in part to honor the memory of the band’s creator and singer.

The band is expected to perform a number of popular oldies covers, including “Gloria,” “In the Midnight Hour,” “Louie Louie,” “Stand By Me” and “Wild Thing.” Special guest will be Roger McGuinn, the former lead singer for the legendary rock band, The Byrds. He will appear with the band and is likely to sing some of The Byrd’s most famous songs such as Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man” and Pete Seger’s “Turn! Turn! Turn!”

The Rock Bottom Remainders have raised over $2 million for various literary causes and the proceeds to the concert at the El Rey Theatre will benefit the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center. Bruce Springsteen, who has been a guest of the literary rock band, had this to say about them “ they aren’t bad, but they should not try to get better otherwise they’d be just another lousy band.”

Specially priced tickets will allow guests to join the band members in a pre-concert reception and lithographs of the entire band may also be purchased. If you have tickets to this final public appearance of the Rock Bottom Remainders at the El Rey Theatre, don't forget to make limousine reservations with the best limousine service in Los Angeles, Exclusive Sedan.
