There are Angels Among Us Called the ….. Angel City Chorale

Los Angeles is a multicultural mecca which is reflected in not only our daily lives but in the type of entertainment that surrounds us. Entertainment takes on a new level when it is by the people that live and work in our communities. We salute the work of Angel City Chorale (ACC).  It was founded in 1993 by Sue Fink and began with only 19 singers in McCabe’s Guitar Shop. Over the years it has increased its numbers and has over 160 singers. In true multi-cultural style they perform a wide range of musical genres which include classical, gospel, jazz, pop and world music. They are dedicated to “Building Community One Song at a Time.”

If you have ever stood on a stage as part of such a powerful group of voices you know the feeling of strength and solidarity that the music from within you brings. If you have been in the audience watching a group of this strength perform you know the powerful emotions so many voices in unison can create. This is one of those groups with that power. Musically the group has made many strides that include participation in the Mahler Project and performing at famous Los Angeles venues such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall. It has even taken outreach programs to international audiences such as Cape Town, South Africa.

With all of its accomplishments “ACC is proudest of its ongoing commitment to the Los Angeles community.”  They have a special holiday concert repertoire that reaches out to 30 plus service organizations in the area. They also donate food, personal items, clothing and supplies to these organizations as well. They have a number of CD’s for sale as well. The net proceeds of its most recent CD, “The Road Home,” go to Ocean Park Community Center (OPCC), an organization serving homeless individuals, battered women and their children, and people living with mental illness.

There is a large upcoming performance on March 23-24, 2012 and March 30-31, 2012 that you don’t want to miss. It will be taking place at the Masonic Lodge, 9653 Venice Boulevard, Culver City, CA 90232. It is called “Woman in the Wall.” ACC will be performing an opera by Kathleen Cramer (words) and O-Lan Jones (music). “This opera springs from the Medieval practice of the Anchorites – people who volunteered to be bricked into a room alone for all their natural lives with one window on the church and one window on the world. They would become oracles for miles around, advisors to everyone from the local peasants to the King. Over the course of seven days, which cover many years, we follow the Woman in the Wall on her inward journey, we track her doubts and fears and watch how her understanding develops as she opens and transforms the peoples’ questions into the Seven Virtues who light her way.”

Angel City Chorale is a California Non-Profit Public Benefit Corporation and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that can thrive and continue its wonderful mission with your donations. Visit . for more information and to hear samples of their angelic voices.
